Swiss green-tech company unveils robots-as-a-service for the waste to X (WtX) sector, advancing plant management through cutting-edge automation and enhancing safety, efficiency and sustainability in complex industrial environments.

Zurich, Switzerland – Kanadevia Inova, a global leader in solutions for the energy transition and circular economy, has announced a partnership with ANYbotics to integrate advanced robotics into daily operations and maintenance at waste to X plants.

The agreement with the Zurich-based global leader in AI-driven robot inspection solutions, signed on 23 December 2024 by Péter Fankhauser (CEO of ANYbotics), Enzo Wälchli (CCO of ANYbotics), Thomas Feilenreiter (EVP Systems and Service Solutions at Kanadevia Inova) and Ingo Eifert (VP Supply Chain Management at Kanadevia Inova), will enable Kanadevia Inova to integrate ANYmal robots in its service portfolio as its preferred ground robot.

The collaboration extends beyond mere robot deployment and sees Kanadevia Inova introduce an integrated digital solution tailored to the needs of the waste to X industry, combining advanced robotics, IoT platform integration, drone technology, computer vision models and predictive maintenance software.

The move follows a successful deployment to demonstrate the capabilities of the ANYbotics-developed ANYmal unit at Kanadevia Inova’s O&M site in Slough (UK), where the robot performed an array of tasks built around autonomous plant inspections.

“For us, there are no greater priorities than the safety, efficiency and sustainability of the plants we build and help to operate and maintain,” said Bruno-Frédéric Baudouin, CEO of Kanadevia Inova. “Being able to leverage the unique Zurich robotics ecosystem to develop autonomous inspections as part of the future solution for anomaly detection is key to important enhancements in these areas.”

The offering will be delivered as a service to plant owners, enabling enhanced automation, monitoring and operational efficiency across WtX plants, and potentially to biogas facilities and metal recovery sites as well. This aligns with Kanadevia Inova’s goal of driving digitalisation and optimising resource recovery in the sector. As part of this initiative, Kanadevia Inova is developing its robotics expertise in collaboration with ANYbotics and will offer its customers various service levels.

Strengthening industrial collaboration and market reach
Bringing together the best of both worlds, the collaboration combines deep domain expertise in waste to X operations with cutting-edge industrial inspection  robotics, delivering a low-risk, high-impact solution with a proven ROI.

Integrating advanced robotic inspections into facility operations also enhances maintenance efficiency, boosting plant uptime, reducing costs and improving worker safety.

Thomas Feilenreiter, Kanadevia Inova’s Executive Vice President Systems and Service Solutions, said: “For Waste to X companies eager to innovate, this approach provides a practical, operations-focused path to adopting next-generation technology with tangible business benefits.”

The co-founder and CEO of ANYbotics, Péter Fankhauser, noted: “We are excited to partner with Kanadevia Inova to bring cutting-edge robotics to the waste to X sector. ANYmal’s autonomous capabilities will enhance safety, efficiency and reliability in the Kanadevia Inova ecosystem, setting a new benchmark for digitalised plant O&M management.”

With deployments planned across key territories including Belgium, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Morocco, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, UAE, the UK and the US, the partnership aims to accelerate the adoption of advanced robotic inspection solutions in waste to X infrastructures worldwide.
