A best practice project as part of Sweden’s decarbonisation strategy, the Jönköping plant uses organic waste to generate biogas from organic waste and upgrades it to create biomethane in the form of a renewable fuel for carbon-free transportation. This is done by means of membrane-based gas permeation. The biogas-based natural gas is injected into transport containers and taken to two CNG filling stations. It meets the requirements of the usual standard for vehicle gas and is used to fuel natural-gas-driven vehicles operated by a regional waste management company, buses in the local public transport system and gas-driven cars. Besides filling equipment, the CNG filling stations have a booster compressor and the infrastructure for emptying the gas transport containers. The facility for buses was designed as a slow filling station for overnight use, and the other as a regular fast filling station.
