Cleaning of fly ash
Ash2Salt™

Description

A powerful fly ash cleaning technology for easy landfilling and recovery of salts for commercial use cases.

Ash2Salt™ is a process for treating air pollution control residues (APCrs). The technology reduces the amount of fly ash to be disposed of and reduces the extraction of virgin resources by producing salts that can be returned to the economy as commercial products. The process yields industrial-grade salts with a purity of >99%.

Features and advantages

  • Sustainable solution enabling WtX plants to turn their hazardous waste into usable material that can be fed back into the circular economy.

  • Reduces the volume of landfills, cutting costs and extending lifetimes.

  • Filter cake qualifies as non-hazardous landfill under 2003/33/EC, 2.3., “Criteria for hazardous waste acceptable at landfills”.

  • Leachability within limits, heavy metals stabilised as metal sulphites.

  • Cl content <1% (EU directive <2.5%).

  • The treated fly ash residue can be disposed of in a non-hazardous landfill within the limits of EU legislation, lowering landfill costs; ~30% (dry to dry) mass to landfill of the filter cake.

  • Salt recovered from fly ash can be commercialised.

  • Washes fly ash without the discharge of chlorides.

  • High tolerance for variations in chloride content in the fly ash leads to stable output.

  • Using landfill leachate and process water for fly ash washing as a wastewater treatment plant.  There is no effluent stream and no brine discharge.

  • Reduces costs and emissions associated with transporting fly ash over long distances.
