X2conmat™ process

Recover Value. Reduce Costs. Close the Loop.

Introduction

Incinerator bottom ash (IBA) represents 20–25% of the original waste mass generated by a Waste-to-Energy plant.  Managed conventionally, it can be a disposal cost. Treated differently, it becomes a recoverable resource.

X2conmat™ is Kanadevia Inova’s integrated bottom ash processing solution. It transforms IBA into defined fractions of ferrous metals, non-ferrous metals, and reusable aggregates, maximising recovery value and reducing landfill dependency.

Designed for both wet and dry ash extraction systems, X2conmat™ helps operators maximise recovery, increase metal revenues, and reduce potential disposal costs, all while meeting circular economy targets.

Process overview

The X2conmat™ systems are designed for efficient, continuous, and automated operation with minimal operator intervention:

  1. Bottom ash is extracted from the grate via wet or dry discharge systems.

  2. The ash is conveyed to screening, crushing and metal separation stages

  3. A ballistic separator separates light, low-quality material from dense, metal-rich fractions.

  4. Ferrous and non-ferrous metals are recovered by magnetic and eddy current separator technologies.

  5. The remaining mineral fraction is processed into reusable aggregate specifications.

  6. Aggregates undergo controlled maturation to ensure environmental stability, compliance, and performance.

Commercial and environmental value

Recover valuable metals

  • High recovery rates for ferrous and non-ferrous metals

  • Additional revenue streams from metal sales

  • Improved quality of recovered materials

Aggregates Products

  • Mineral fractions (reusable aggregates) are suitable for infrastructure and civil engineering applications

  • Reduced reliance on primary raw materials

  • Compliance with national and EU reuse standards

Reduce Potential Disposal Exposure

  • Significant reduction in landfill volumes

  • Lower disposal costs and long-term liabilities

  • Reduced aftercare obligations

Strengthen Sustainability and Compliance

  • Contribution to circular economy targets

  • Reduced CO₂ footprint through metal recycling

  • Alignment with increasingly strict regulatory requirements

Flexible plant configuration

X2conmat™ plants are sized to meet regional market needs. Facilities with capacities of 60–200 ktpa can be integrated directly at Waste to Energy sites to optimise logistics and operational efficiency. Alternatively, regional hub concepts allow multiple WtE plants to aggregate ash streams, achieving economies of scale and enhanced processing performance

With X2conmat™, you can transform bottom ash into a valuable resource.
